Summarizing Examples

When you summarize, you use different words and state the main idea of a passage. The length of your summary will be shorter than the original passage. In the following slides, you'll see some sample summaries to help you gain a better understanding of how to write an effective summary of a passage.

It's important to note that, when you summarize, you must still cite your source. Even when putting source information in your own words, you must still cite the idea. Failure to do so is a form of plagiarism.
