A Party with Nouns

A picture of a dieffenbachia plant.

Michelle stood next to the potted dieffenbachia. She knew the plant was a dieffenbachia because her biology professor, Dr. Hidalgo, had one in his office. She hated these parties and wondered why she let Stacy talk her into going. The group of people across the room were being mean to others. Making funny noises and making fun of other people seemed like their favorite pastimes. And, if that wasn't enough, there was another group of people wrestling and fighting over video-game controllers in front of the television. She felt like a den-mother watching over a group of badly-behaved cub scouts on a Halloween sugar high. Should she say something to these people? Should she tell them they were behaving badly? She wasn't their mother, and this was not the kind of family she wanted to keep track of. Running seemed like a really good idea.
