Original: "Some animals cooperate with each other to help or protect members of their group, a reasoning activity that implies communication. Elephants in danger will form a ring around the young of the herd, like the circle of a pioneer wagon train formed against Indian attacks. Elephants will bracket a wounded comrade between them to convey him to safety and porpoises will support an injured one with their bodies, holding it at the surface so it can breathe" (Berlitz, 1982).

Summary: Some animals appear to communicate and collaborate to help and protect each other. For example, threatened elephants surround their young to protect them, and brace their injured till out of harm's way. Similarly, dolphins physically keep disabled members afloat to get air (Berlitz, 1982).
