The Unsuspecting College Freshman
I am pretty sure I have this whole college thing figured out. I know I has / have been attending college for only a month, but it is a lot easier than our high school teachers made it seem. First, you get to choose what times your classes are / were. If you do not want to get out of bed in the morning, just schedule your first class for 11:00 a.m., or even noon. Of course, when I came in late to my 11:00 a.m. psychology class and try / tried to tell my professor it was because my alarm did not go off in time, she did give me a dirty look.
Also, the professors gives / give you a lot of freedom and trust you to go to the bathroom. It is not like in high school where you have to ask permission and then go get a hall pass. Of course, don’t get me started about the way my high school teachers would come find people who took too long in the bathroom. In one of my college classes, when I came up to the front of class during lecture to ask if it was okay to go to the bathroom, the professor gives / gave me a weird look and smiled.
The one thing I would say, though, is that you has / have to be sure to attend class. If you don’t, you will be so lost. One really bad part about college so far is my writing professor, who makes me write—a lot. My writing teacher give / gave me a D on my first essay. Let me rephrase that. This is the way my writing teacher put it: My essay earned a D. Still, she allowed me to revise, which helped a lot. So, college writing is / are a lot of work, but you definitely get second chances if you need them.
Reading is also an important part of college. I just haven’t found a lot of time for it. I mean, I do have clubs to participate in. My “Call of Duty” group is / are an important part of my college cultural experience. I just have to convince my professor of the value of such extra-curricular activities.
College is actually a lot of fun. I hope my parents are / were pleased when my grades arrive. I am sure they will be.
