Brackets Can Help With It [Clarification]
Although many people are frightened of them, zombies are really just crying out for love and friendship. Johnson notes this in his essay, "True Blue Zombies." He writes, "Zombies eat humans as a way to gain back what they are missing in their new state, human connection" (249). It is zombification that drives zombies away from their families and friends, leaving them without someone with whom to connect. Johnson further discusses the denial that many zombies go through during their lifelong search. "They zombies do not have a clear idea of what they need. Zombies, while usually aiming for the brain, are about twelve or so inches from what they are looking for, which is the heart" (250). Johnson claims that zombies are ignorant of their goals. They have a drive that is uncontrollable, but lack of guidance in their endeavors. He ends with the statement: "It love is the antivirus the world has been searching for" (265). Scientists should aim their efforts at empathy instead of pharmaceuticals.
